Kinja'd!!!

I have a really bad sinus infection and it’s making me feel like I’m going to pass out. Ive had it for a couple months because I was ignoring it because I thought it was just my depression so it’s pretty awful now. I’m on antibiotics but they don’t seem to be helping does anyone have any advice? The doc thinks the symptoms will last for up to a month.

I don't have much experience with sinus infections but my usual go to is Benadryl and sleep off the sickness

Keep taking antibiotics at the suggested intervals. That last part is very important, your body can become resistant if you dont pay attention to that.

I thought I had Sinusitis, my docs thought I had it too. I took about 8 different medications, none of which worked. Eventually I demanded that they look down my throat to see what was going on. Turns out I had acid reflux. Got medication for that and I was cured.

Hydration is critical. Not only does it help your body fight its hardest, but it will help loosen the mucus. It will also help your kidneys filter out the bad stuff and pass it via urination.

Antibiotics will definitely help, but outside of that, the best thing you can do is get rest, eat well, and stay hydrated.

Also take a 24 hour decongestant (Allegra-D, Claritin-D, etc-D). I’ve had only a few but the Dr. always recommends this along with the Rx.

Take ALL of the drugs they give you. Don’t stop if you start feeling better. If it doesn’t start feeling better in a week, go back to the doctor. You may need a more potent antibiotic. Lots of people like to use netti pots to clean out the sinuses, but I’m not sold. You have to be very careful with the water you use, since you could get a bacteria in your brain. No fun. Keep flushing your sinuses with saline to help get the gunk out. You can buy sterilized spray bottles at the drug store. Good luck! And next time, listen to your body and get on these things early.

TAKE YOUR MEDS AS PRESCRIBED, and get yourself the following:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

*generic/similar is fine

Usage of either prior to a hot steamy shower is mandatory, otherwise use them at least twice daily.

Since you’ve ignored your symptoms for so long, consider seeing an ENT specialist (ear, nose, & throat) soon. It could be an unknown allergy, blocked sinuses, deviated septum (my issue), or a combination of these and other ailments.

Ok I'll try the saline spray and if it doesn't get better I'll look into the ENT specialist

The meds more but take a week or more. I’ve used a couple bumps of coke to diminish the symptoms for a while.

agree with all the posters below and add that you can try a mucinex or guaifenesin (sp?) 12hr pill to loosen mucus, along with lots of hot showers. If it gets to your lungs and you find it hard to breathe or start to wheeze, go to the Dr. and get steroids, either inhaled or pills, because that’s serious. Good luck / get well

Agreed on the ENT. I have one and he’s great. He was able to prescribe antibiotics and oral steroids and nasal steroids to help clear my sinus infection. I don’t even bother going to my regular doctor if I get a sinus infection - I head right to my ENT.
